Givenchy SS16 New York Fashion Week 2015

The Givenchy spring/summer 16 collection debuted on New York fashion week 2015.Givenchy’s SS16 collection showed a deliberate binding of Parisian and middle eastern/Indian themes to its collection. Givenchy celebrated multicultural representation with the pairings of each outfit.

Gentle Parisian crochet lace tops were paired with Indian style baggy trousers which showed popular European traditions can be clearly merged with basic Indian styles for effect. A few of the outfits and dresses had bold Aztec patterns on the front and some had reptile style finishing’s, and this collection showed outfits merged with feather coatings. Colours used for Givenchy SS16 collection this key season included dowdy blacks, soft creams and purified whites. Givenchy’s SS16 footwear saluted Parisian dance Can-Can shoes used back in Paris in the 1920’s.

Givenchy’s catwalk show this year was a fashion peace treaty, as fashion politics really played a part as it showed cultural diversity within fashion showing different countries can forget politics and merge their fashion together pleasantly, and can be as fashion friendly as it gets.  Within the catwalk show face material and jewels were used as face masks for the simple purpose of fashion descriptive power. A Spiritual essence filled the outdoor space as the dense dark sky along with the placid and ornate Buddha worship music filled the runway, representing this SS16 collection’s theme perfectly. As the gentle violin music played, models paraded down the outdoor catwalk in Givenchy couture, whilst the music playing created feelings of worship and respect. This created a Parisian and Indian theme, something that Givenchy wanted the viewers to embody with this current collection.
